Xiaomi Redmi Y3, Redmi 7 to launch today in India

Xiaomi has officially unveiled its latest Redmi phone, the Redmi Y3, alongside the international version of the Redmi 7, which was previously only available in China.

Both smartphones are basically identical, with the exception of the selfie department. The Y3 has a 32 MPa selfie camera, the highest on all Xiaomi devices. The phones incorporate the brand's new Aurora design language with its subtle curves and double construction in degraded Gorilla Glass 5. Xiaomi positions the Y3 as the ultimate selfie machine and wants it to be competitive in the budget segment.

On the front panel, the Y3 and Redmi 7 are equipped with a 6.25 IPS HD + drop screen screen with TUV-certified blue light filter. For the Y3, the notch is equipped with the 32MP front camera that incorporates AI scene detection, an 80 degree field of view and the EIS system for video stabilization. The Redmi 7 replaces it with a forward shooter of 8MP.

The back of both phones features a Gorilla Glass 5 layer and contains a 12MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Below is the LED flash and to its right is the fingerprint reader.

Xiaomi claims its new Aurora design, which offers a combination of degraded colors and changes its color depending on the lighting.

Inside, both devices are powered by the Snapdragon 632 processor. You can choose between 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32/64GB of storage for the Y3. Storage is expandable up to 512 GB thanks to the 2 + 1 card slot.

The battery of both phones is 4000 mAh and comes with a 10W charger. Both are splash-proof thanks to the P2i hydrophobic coating, a rarity on Xiaomi phones and a step in the right direction. Other extras include a 3.5mm headphone jack (if you can count it as an extra) and an IR blaster.

New Redmi devices will be available in Prime Black, Elegant Blue and Bold Red colors.

The Redmi Y3 will start at 9,999 INR ($ 145) for the basic version 3/32 GB, while the 4/64 GB variant will reach 11,999 INR ($ 170).

The Redmi 7 will be available a day earlier in 2/32 GB and 3/32 GB configurations starting at 7999 INR ($ 115).

Sales begin April 30 at the Xiaomi website, as well as at online retailers across the country.
